Gail Johnson, CPM (Certified Professional Midwife) practices homebirth and birth center birth in Tarrant and Dallas counties of Texas. This Web Site concerns midwifery and related subjects.
I am webmaster for this site and also a CPMH (Certified Professional Midwife's Husband). There is no certification organization for this title, but a long and arduous course of formal education and informal practicum is required to become a CPMH. That is, is support Gail and her love of being a midwife.
Attendance at hundreds of childbirth classes (video tapes of births included), quite a few births, and all post-birth "rehash" sessions is required. Active participation in discussions of home birth versus hospital birth with local, state and national midwives is often part of the formal and informal education process, as is participation in dissemination of consensus of these meetings to public, press, legislators and government regulatory bodies.
Active participation (i.e., contribution of computer skills) in creation of midwifery business materials, workshop notes, lecture materials, seminar materials, e-mail correspondence, and preparation of claims submission forms are all part (but not all) of normal CPMH training duties.
And the list goes on ... and on ... . But it is all done to help my wife in pursuit of not only her chosen profession, but also her calling and joy in life.
When not acting as CPMH, I am webmaster for GTE Communications Corporation. I work in a documentation group in the Strategic Markets organization and manage at least five of our organization's Web Sites.
I have been "in computers," in one capacity or another since the mid sixties. I am an ex-IBMer and an ex-organic chemist.
Here is a picture of my wonderful wife (and midwife) relaxing with me.
